about
This Christmas will be the first I spend here in my new (old) home in Australia. It's hot and there's insects and it's still light til quite late in the day, so there's less twinkling lights and that.
Mostly though I am missing all my friends back in my other home, in the UK. Sometimes, quite unbearably. My family too, misses everyone back home and I wish I could be with my friends this Christmas.
I wrote this song for a compilation but I didn't finish it in time. But now it's finished and, well I don't feel like waiting til next year. Please enjoy the cheesy sax synth and the 90's staple classical guitar solo.
Merry Christmas everybody!
Love Bill xxxx
lyrics
I'm sorry I haven't been in touch, I haven't written or called you as much
as I promised I would do,
But I really miss you
Honestly I do,
I hope you know it's true.
I bought a bottle of that gin you like, and I bought another I thought you'd like to try
I can put the kids to bed, if you wanna come by?
I sure would like to see you,
I hope you know it's true
The kitchen is a mess and so is my head
I'd like to spend this Christmas in bed
If I could buy anything here's what I'd do,
I'd buy an airline ticket and a some running shoes,
new jeans, a haircut and a new tattoo,
I'd throw them in a bag and come looking for you
I'm sorry I haven't been in touch
I haven't called or written or texted you as much
as I promised I would do
But I really miss you (Merry Christmas)
Honestly I do, (Merry Christmas)
I really miss you
I hope you know it's true

The name of this album perfectly encapsulates everything I love about Elizabeth's musical output from the Darlings to Allo Darlin' to these precious songs: an unyielding optimism that is never naive, and by being so, becomes wildly contagious. Some music tells you that "everything will be ok", but her music actually makes you believe it, even when the lyrics hint at doubt. Michael Feck
